Every traveler needs a passport valid at least 3 months after arrival — 6 months recommended. Drivers bringing their own vehicle need a Green Card covering Morocco; the old D16ter paper form was abolished in January 2019, so customs simply register the car and hand you a printed slip at the border. Arriving by Ferry With Your Own Vehicle
This is the most document-heavy way to enter Morocco. In addition to the universal checklist above:
- Vehicle registration certificate, in the driver’s name
- Valid driving licence (EU licences accepted; International Driving Permit recommended if yours isn’t in Latin script)
- Green Card (International Motor Insurance Certificate) confirming Morocco (“MA”) is covered — not crossed out
- Vehicle registration document — there is no D16ter form to print any more (abolished January 2019); customs register the car at the border and hand you a printed slip
- Passport stamped onboard the ferry — find the Moroccan Police desk as soon as you board, don’t wait until arrival

- Vehicle documents check, if applicable (registration, Green Card, and the temporary admission slip customs hand you)
- Customs inspection — officers may check the vehicle interior, trunk, and luggage; answer clearly, keep documents accessible

Digital copies are convenient, but a single physical folder with printed passport photocopy, vehicle registration, Green Card, and accommodation confirmation — in that order — makes you noticeably faster to process than travelers fumbling through phone screenshots. Officers see this daily; a organized folder signals an easy, quick interaction.
What Customs Officers Actually Check
Most crossings are routine. Officers may look inside the vehicle, trunk, roof boxes and luggage. Generally accepted items include personal luggage, cameras, laptops, smartphones and personal medication. Do I need a visa to enter Morocco?

What happens if my Green Card doesn’t cover Morocco?
You’ll need to purchase temporary border insurance on the spot, which typically costs more than arranging proper coverage in advance. Check with your insurer weeks before departure to avoid this.
Do I still need to fill in a D16ter form?
No. The old D16bis/D16ter paper forms were abolished in January 2019. You declare the vehicle verbally at the border; customs enter it in their BADR system from your passport and registration document (plus a notarised authorisation or rental contract if the car isn’t yours) and hand you a printed slip. Keep it with the car — you’ll show it at checks and hand it back on exit.
Is the checklist different for arriving with children?
Documentation for children traveling with both parents is generally the same as adults (valid passport). If a child is traveling with only one parent or a guardian, additional consent documentation may be required — verify specifics well before travel.
